Our Board

The Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) is an independent arms-length body of the Department of Health and Social Care, governed by our Board.

Our Board is made up of people from diverse backgrounds, including healthcare, law, finance and IT. They bring with them different experience and perspectives that support HSSIB’s mission. They are actively involved in our strategic development and performance management.

The Board is led by Ted Baker, Chair. He is joined by five non-executive directors and four executive directors.

The role and key responsibilities of our Board include:

  • Set HSSIB’s strategic direction.
  • Provide ideas and challenge organisational thinking.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative and inclusive culture across the organisation.
  • Seek assurance that HSSIB is delivering its strategy and managing risk satisfactorily.
  • Ensure that performance is managed effectively.
  • Ensure the organisation meets its legal duties and external obligations.

Our Board is committed to accessibility, openness and transparency. We hold our meetings at host organisations across England and encourage our healthcare sector colleagues and the public to attend and observe.

The next HSSIB Board meeting takes place on Thursday 7 December 2023 at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, Derby.
