Medical directors, chief nurses, clinical governance leads, quality leaders and people with oversight of surgical services at independent healthcare providers are invited to attend one of the roundtables.
The discussions will explore how independent providers:
- obtain assurance about surgical safety
- identify and escalate emerging risks
- report on and learn from safety concerns
- share safety information across organisational boundaries
- work with NHS organisations to support wider system learning.
The roundtables will also provide an opportunity to share challenges and examples of effective practice.
We are working with the Independent Healthcare Providers Network on these events.
Surgical safety investigation
The discussions will inform our investigation, Improving surgical safety through reporting, monitoring and learning.
The investigation is focused on understanding how systems support the monitoring of surgical safety and identifying opportunities for national learning and improvement. It is not reviewing individual organisations, clinicians or specific incidents.
Information shared with HSSIB will be handled in accordance with the Health and Care Act 2022. We will protect the identities of the staff and organisations that take part.
