Cherry Lumley
Safety Investigator
Cherry joined the Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) in February 2026 as a Safety Investigator. She brings with her almost 25 years of NHS clinical nursing experience.
Previously, Cherry worked as a Senior Sister and Clinical Governance Nursing Lead across two busy tertiary critical care units at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In these roles she successfully carried out patient safety investigations, managed safety risks and led quality improvement initiatives, whilst also maintaining clinical involvement and mentoring colleagues. She also contributed to Trust wide and national patient safety learning, and academic publications.
Her work is underpinned by a strong emphasis on the application of human factors principles in clinical practice, which Cherry believes is pivotal to delivering optimal patient care.
Cherry holds an MSc in Human Factors for Patient Safety and is a Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics, currently working towards full membership. She is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and is a registered member of the Royal College of Nursing.
