Safety recommendation
HSIB recommends that NHSX, supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement, implements a discovery programme into the roadmap for the digital personal child health record focused on developing support, self-reporting and alerting for asthma self-care.
Response:
NHSX is aware that provision of data capture, and self care tools, for young people with asthma is a recognised priority.
NHSX would propose that scope could include:
- An Asthma dashboards to support data-sharing to improve outcomes and commissioning.
- A user centred design approach to explore and understand user needs.
For example, there could be an opportunity to incorporate Asthma Action Plans, symptom diaries, medication reminders, functionality to record peak flow results as well tailored educational information and weather and pollen counts.
At the current time specific resources have not been identified to support digital work to support the above. As an early part of the discovery the team will liaise with the NHSX Shared Care Records programme to establish any opportunities for collaboration and alignment. NHSX will table proposals to address these requirements to the NHS England and NHS Improvement CYP Transformation board for prioritisation and provision of appropriate resourcing to begin this work.
