The ‘10 year plan’ and the ‘Dash review’ – both expected to be published later this week – will set out a new long-term strategy for how the NHS operates and plans for how patient safety concerns are addressed. After these publications we will have clarity on plans for the future and our role in patient safety. In the meantime, our work to address systemic patient safety concerns continues as usual.
This is a time of widespread and significant change for many health and care organisations and their staff. We are focused on supporting our team, who do fantastic work to improve patient safety through high quality investigations and an in-demand education programme. We also offer our support to other organisations affected by these changes.
Along with media coverage about our future, last week our latest three investigation reports made headlines highlighting the recognition of sepsis as an urgent and persistent safety risk. Next month we will publish reports about digital systems to support safe discharge and about data sharing and IT systems in prison healthcare. We’re also working on investigations that aim to improve the safety of insulin administration in both community and inpatient settings.
We look forward to continuing our work – which is more important than ever for patient safety – during this time of significant change and uncertainty.
