Gemma has over 20 years of experience across the NHS and private healthcare sectors, having qualified as a paediatric nurse in 2005. She specialised in paediatric oncology and haematology, progressing to become the Lead Practice Educator for paediatric chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation.

In 2018, Gemma moved into corporate patient safety and risk management within an NHS trust, where she served as a Patient Safety Investigation Lead before taking on the role of Head of Safety, Clinical Governance, Risk and Quality. In 2020, she completed a diploma in clinical risk and claims management with Capsticks law firm, strengthening her expertise in this field.

Gemma has a particular interest in supporting patients and families affected by healthcare incidents. She is a trained mediator and is deeply committed to ensuring compassionate, trauma‑informed communication throughout the investigation process. She is also a trained Schwartz facilitator, advocating for reflective practice and emotional support for healthcare staff.
